Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate

Part of the human experience is to embrace the messiness of life, grow through challenges, and find connection and meaning along the way. Therapy provides a space to navigate these challenges with support and guidance, helping you uncover strengths, build resilience, and create a more fulfilling life.
As Virginia Satir said, “I want you to get excited about who you are, what you are, what you have, and what can still be for you. I want to inspire you to see that you can go far beyond where you are right now.”
I have a passion for helping people put the pieces back together, guiding them toward healing and growth. Together, we can create a space where you feel supported, understood, and empowered to take meaningful steps forward.
My name is Amara McPherson, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Psychology from Life Pacific University and a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University. Over the past five years, I’ve gained experience working with individuals, couples, families, teens, and children in a variety of settings.
I began my career as a Registered Behavior Therapist, working as an early-age interventionist for children on the Autism Spectrum. Helping children in this therapeutic setting became one of my favorite seasons of my life. Furthering my career, I worked with Communities In Schools (CIS) of Houston, providing school-based mental health services to families and children navigating crises and transitions. During my clinical practicum at Katy Child & Family Counseling Services, I developed a particular passion for working with teens and young adults as they face life’s many changes and challenges.
I specialize in helping clients manage life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, communication issues, parenting, infidelity, and family relationship concerns. My therapeutic style is warm, humanistic, deeply relational, and founded on direct communication. I believe in empowering clients to make meaningful changes in their lives. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel understood and equipped to take the next steps toward your goals.
If this sounds like the type of support you’re looking for, I’d love to work with you.
“Your greatest possibilities live beyond the edge of the known. When you gather the courage to let go of who you always have been, you open to the infinite potential of all that you could become.”
