Licensed Professional Counselor and Doctoral Marriage and Family Therapy Intern

My name is Makeba D. Terrell and I am a native Houstonian. I have been married 26 years and am a proud mother to two daughters, aged 14 and 20. A graduate of the University of Houston, I hold a B.A. in Computer Information Systems and bring more than 30 years of experience in the IT industry. However, my deep-rooted passion for relationships, marriage, and family led me to earn an M.A. in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University, become a certified Mediator, and pursue a doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Couples Therapy.
By day, I’m an IT Security Analyst, and by night, I fulfill my calling as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), guiding couples and individuals aged 25 and older on their journey toward healing. At my clients’ requests, I thoughtfully incorporate biblical principles alongside clinical theories, offering a balanced approach to addressing relationship conflicts and mental health challenges. My goal is to empower individuals with the tools needed to rebuild strong, healthy relationships and break free from negative thought patterns.
On July 1, 2020, I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Despite this life-altering challenge, I remain steadfast in my mission, viewing counseling as my ministry to serve those facing relationship distress, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma.
For more than eight years, I have been guiding couples and individuals through their mental health journeys. As I continue to grow in my own healing, my dedication to helping others overcome relationship and mental health challenges remains unwavering, empowering them to not just survive but truly thrive.
